Yorview Director Tim Hunter presented a paper on Quality Driven Development at the British Computer Society Quality Specialist Group's Annual International SQM (Software Quality Management) conference on Monday 6th April 2009 at Southampton Solent University.
This was the 17th International Software Quality Management (SQM) Conference. The SQM aims to promote co-operation and greater understanding among practitioners and academics by providing an opportunity to share research and practical experience. Quality Driven Development (‘Prudence’) is a rigorous IT Quality methodology that focuses on micro-managing and delivering usable software products built in accordance with requirements and specifications. QDD solves the Agile/Waterfall dispute by providing iterative 'Development By Test' phases within a staged ‘Waterfall’ model. QDD has been developed by Yorview Director Tim Hunter who has spent 28 years working in various areas of IT including Systems Development, Systems Testing and Technical Support. |

May 2009: Yorview Director Tim Hunter has joined the Consultative Council of the Professional Contractor’s Group (PCG). The PCG is an independent not-for-profit professional association. Its mission is representing, supporting and promoting the freelance community, with specific attention to the needs of those freelancers who are members of PCG. The PCG aims to be the ultimate authority on the issues that affect the freelance community and strive for freelancing to be valued and respected as a legitimate option and a vital force for the UK economy. Politicians and others in the policy world tend to think and act in terms of “employees” and “employers”. The one in seven UK workers who have chosen to work for themselves, have hitherto been largely invisible to policy makers. It is this lack of understanding of this sector that has led to punitive stealth taxation such as IR35 and S660A. Tim said ‘I am pleased to be selected for the PCG Consultative Council and I look forward to helping the PCG promote the interests of Independent Freelance Contractors, and press for reform in areas like off-shoring and stealth taxation.’ ‘I also believe we need reform of the recruitment agency sector which I believe is perpetuating narrow job titles which is making things difficult for highly experienced ‘all-rounders’ like myself. Finally, I’d like to press for IT quality standards in the UK to be maintained. We must not allow standards to be compromised by moving away from micro-managed Testing processes towards more ‘forgiving’ high level quality certification.’ |

What People say about Tim's writing: Glad to see somebody telling the truth about the alleged wonders of offshoring. I have to agree with Tim Hunter particularly re his last paragraph 'Honesty is the best policy… keep up the good work. 'WHAT an excellent piece by Tim Hunter (Yorkshire Post, January 8)...I, too, agree with Tim Hunter that we are running on empty.' 'Tim Hunter is absolutely Spot on (Yorkshire Post October 20) particularly when he says people get the politicians they deserve.' 'The work that went into this survey was herculean and we simply do not have an adequate way of thanking Tim and YORVIEW. Independent experts have opined that this survey is significant, and its findings are very important.' Colin Grainger , Chairman , Freedom 2 Choose 'HOORAY! I can concur with this opinion …. I also agree with some sort of law indemnifying against the effects of poor quality software.' BCS Blog response. |
